« Just a quickie for you... | Main | Fair and balanced » March 7, 2007This is satire, yes? Please tell me this is satire. (It is genuinely hard to tell these days. Take this entry on Fox News for example... it could easily be dismissed as satire if it weren't for certain recent developments. ) Posted by Manic on March 7, 2007 8:48 PM in the category The Reality-Based Community Pings (Trackback)For trackbacks, this is the URL: Comments I'm pretty sure that entry is, and the place is probably being taken over by satirists, but it was set-up by the usual US based nutjobs. Posted by: septicisle at March 7, 2007 9:35 PM It's a genuine site. It got pretty thoroughly vandalised a couple of weeks ago, but they seem to have taken out many of the more obvious wind-ups (like the one about the Northwest Pacific Arboreal Octopus, for example). I'm pleased to see the entries on unicorns and the origin of the kangaroo are still there and, presumably, genuine. Posted by: NotSaussure at March 7, 2007 11:29 PM That is genuinely worrying. The Northwest Pacific Arboreal Octopus entry can still be seen here if you're quick: http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q=5997813896047&lang=en-GB&mkt=en-GB&FORM=CVRE Posted by: Manic at March 7, 2007 11:39 PM Posted by: poons at March 8, 2007 12:40 AM I think somebody should start a site called "Adopt an American". People in the rest of the world could adopt an American, invite them to travel to stay with them, educate them about how things are done in other cultures and so on. Maybe, just maybe, a few more would start looking outwards instead of inwards and question what they're being fed. Unfortunately, the rest of the world needs to do the same with the Brits. Posted by: julian bond at March 8, 2007 8:19 AM 1. Thanks for the link, poons. I think it'll be quite interesting to see how long it takes them to identify all of the satirical entries. 2. I'd love to help with the former project Julian, but I'm already quite busy with the latter. ;o) Posted by: Manic at March 8, 2007 9:19 AM It's not satire manic - they're deadly serious. They've come under such ridicule in America that they're very careful in vetting new entries. "Eagle Forum University" - set up by Andy Schafly, the founder of Conservapedia - even runs online university courses from the site. Posted by: pete at March 8, 2007 5:49 PM Well, there we have it... proof that there is no God. (Is this that thing they call 'irony'...?)
