UPDATE (11pm) – Got some video for you, folks.

Rally4Sanity London: an important message

It is just past midday on 10.29.10 29.10.10. There are now less than 24 hours to go before midday on 10.30.10 30.10.10. That makes it impossible for anyone to apply for police permission to stage a London demonstration in favour of sanity (or anything else) at 12pm tomorrow within the confines of the designated area displayed in the map below.

If you wish to have a rally to restore sanity anywhere in or near Parliament or Downing Street midday on 30.10.2010, there is now NO way to gain permission to do it legally; the official deadline passed days ago, and even the short notice deadline would require the use of a time machine. That’s the law.

(See: Sections 132 to 138 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005)

If you wish to hold an urgent and spontaneous demonstration outside Scotland Yard or the Home office in protest, this too is illegal without police permission (see map).

rally4sanity map

The KeepFearAlive rally for London does have police permission to stage a demonstration within the designated area (from 12pm-2pm), and we will also be demonstrating in favour of the law that grants us this exclusive privelege:

London/Westminster Rally to Defend SOCPA and Keep Fear Alive
12pm Saturday 30.10.2010
Old Palace Yard SW1 (map)
Wear BLACK, or a BLACK costume. (No excuses!)

In summary, for anyone wishing to demonstrate in favour of sanity anywhere near Parliament tomorrow, I present one of the authorised placards for our event:

I look forward to seeing my fellow fear-mongers at the event. Click here for further details and downloadable placards. Don’t forget to wear the blackest of your black shirts.

Fear Flyer

London/Westminster Rally to Defend SOCPA and Keep Fear Alive

The Rally To Restore Sanity is a cheap, populist campaign by some upstarts in America with a popular television show (The Daily Show). It is now apparent that this rally may actually go global, with people marching in major cities across the world this Saturday 12pm midday (local time) on 10.30.10 30.10.2010

Currently, under British law it is forbidden for you to stage a demonstration in or near Parliament and other designated areas without prior permission from police (ideally, six days in advance). A repeal of the relevant part of the SOCPA act has been in the works since before the last election, but we are not sure at this time where the present coalition government stands on this.

I suspect some people who seek to follow the crowd like sheep and involve themselves in The Rally To Restore Sanity may wish to stray inside a designated area without permission, or perhaps even target Parliament itself.

I have subsequently applied for (and received) police permission to stage an urgent demonstration to protest outside Parliament against any violation of this law, and in support of protecting the law as it stands:

permission

I ask you; what reasonable person would make their way down to Parliament on short notice expecting to be taken seriously?

I call on you to join me this Saturday to take stand against such people:

London/Westminster Rally to Defend SOCPA and Keep Fear Alive

The law is the only thing that stands between us and absolute chaos. We can’t have people marching on Parliament at a moment’s notice. We need the threat of arrest to keep them at bay. Perhaps a little kettling if they try to stare us down. Something that’ll make them think twice, at any rate.

Now don’t go making that face. Fear is good. Fear works. Fear will keep the local systems in line.

In fact, I want you to overcome your fear of fear. I want you to campaign for the careful and responsible use of fear in the defence of our democratically-elected leaders! (Can I get an ‘amen’?)

LOCATION AND DETAILS

Date: 12pm Saturday 30.10.2010
Location: Old Palace Yard SW1, London (map)

Old Palace Yard is in Westminster, here, under the shadow of the Jewel Tower It’s right by the place where journalists do their pieces to camera outside Parliament, but we’ll try not to get in their way.

You must wear black. You may dress in a scary costume if you wish, even if it seems a peculiar and rather American thing to do, but I must insist – as the keeper of the authorisation document – that you dress in a uniformly black ensemble. So that leaves… witches, the Grim Reaper, cat-women, Catholic priests, that chap from the movie ‘V for Whatever’, or perhaps my own personal choice; a sensible suit with a sturdy but tidy overcoat and a nice briefcase that really tells those workshy scroungers that you mean business. Perhaps a nice black shirt to set it all off. Yes, that’s the ticket.

I can be contacted via the usual email facility and Twitter if you have any questions (the relevant hashtag and link: #KeepFearAliveUK and http://j.mp/KeepFearAliveUK). If you need to find me at the event, I’ll be the one wearing the black armband.

AUTHORISED PLACARDS

Because we don’t want to be going too far ourselves and free-wheeling on the placards at short notice or anything untoward, I’ve made some pre-prepared ones that you can print out on any printer as A4, then soberly enlarge to A3* at work, (or your local newsagents or post office if you’re an elderly). A limited number of regulation-size placards will be available in exchange for a £1 £2 donation, with proceeds going toward a large screen something or other.

Fear Poster 01      Fear Poster 02

Fear Poster 03     Fear Poster 04

(*Please advise me if you plan to enlarge your own poster to A2 or above, as I will need to clear it with the committee. Please also get in touch if you want to join the committee.)

(Credible lobbying organisations like Christian Concern for our Nation understand the value of uniform placards. Take a look and see them in action.)

FEAR: A SHORT ESSAY

You may have noticed that things have been changing recently and some developments are not to everyone’s liking. People have been gathering near Parliament and making ugly noises about the sincerity of the government’s actions regarding some rather harsh cuts, for example. But, as you all know, the cuts are very necessary, entirely the fault of the previous administration, and nothing can be done to stop them.

If Thatcher should die suddenly of being very old, and the £3million+ budget for the planned state funeral became a matter for debate, obviously it would be a time-sensitive issue and a lot of people worried about the expenditure in these times of austerity would want to march on Parliament and complain about the money before it is spent, and I would understand their sense of urgency to a point, but there are limits. Who do some of these people think they are? You can’t just walk up to Parliament and demand answers without permission.

Worse; some of these people have had jobs to get on with, or should be doing something useful or quiet with the time we pay for on whatever benefits scam they’re running.

Something really must be done about the people who expect to be able to walk up to Parliament any time they like and make a fuss over things we cannot change. Further, these people do not understand that they are concerned about things that clearly aren’t important, or are going to happen whether they like it or not. They don’t comprehend that they should simply take their lumps and go away, or at least try to roll with the tide. In fact, I am beginning to wonder if something might be wrong with them, and I’ve half a mind to report some of them to police, even if they don’t turn up on Saturday. I’ve heard tell that these same people send vile and abusive messages, and set up foul and disgusting websites objecting to all sorts of perfectly reasonable things.

PRINT AND DISPLAY A FLYER!

As you can see, I have a more enlightened outlook since we last spoke about this and have moved on from my previous (naive and uninformed) view on SOCPA, and I urge you to not only join me, but also inform your colleagues by putting this poster up at your place of work:

Patrick Mercer claims Tory conference is terror target. Maybe.

Let me do you the courtesy of explaining why I think Patrick Mercer’s ‘Tory conference terror alert’ story is a crock of beans.

To begin with, Patrick Mercer claims his sources are retired police and Army intelligence officers:

Sources in Northern Ireland said that the October conference in central Birmingham had emerged as the prize target on a hit list drawn up by resurgent republican paramilitaries. Patrick Mercer, ex-chairman of the Commons subcommittee on counter-terrorism, said former senior police and army intelligence officers had informed him that dissident splinter groups had discussed targeting David Cameron’s first conference as prime minister. (source)

Elsewhere this is reported/repeated as “sources in Northern Ireland” or even “police/intelligence sources in Northern Ireland” but really this should carry the health warning “according to Conservative MP Patrick Mercer…” because as Mark Townsend and Toby Helm (authors of the original Observer article) noted at the time;

Sources for West Midlands police said they had no intelligence of a specific threat against the Tory party conference. (source)

So this is not from the official song sheet and we only have Mercer’s word to go on that anyone sang otherwise. As far as the police charged with policing the event are concerned, there is no evidence of a specific threat. (You may wish to add ‘that they wish to discuss at this time’, which changes little about what follows, even if true.)

This leaves us with the possibility that this is (a) a leak, (b) the opinion of one or two retired officers, or (c) wholly imagined bullshit

(a) Exploring the possibility that it is a leak from the active police/intelligence community, we encounter the minor problem of Patrick Mercer’s recent embarrassments. Anyone in the loop will be aware of criminal investigations into/involving (hopefully former) associates of Patrick Mercer who, crucially, turned out to be conspicuously if not spectacularly discredited as sources of terrorism ‘intelligence’. Any proper cop on the job should also be aware that Mercer very recently involved police in a childish and damaging tabloid claim about his former mistress. Similarly, no serving soldier can afford to be associated with Mercer’s HIV bomb fantasies/alarmism. Ultimately, Mercer offers as much integrity and discretion as a pair of crotchless panties. If there’s a genuine threat to the Tory party conference that needs to be leaked for some reason, there are far more credible channels at present (if not in general). I’d sooner believe the NHS were issuing leaks through Nadine Dorries.

(b) If this is the opinion of one or two retired officers, years of anti-corruption regulation and legislation are working against them in an effort to keep them out of the loop, so at best they are making a judgement based on material in the public domain… or passed on in a public house. If they are privy to anything beyond that, they are most likely breaking the law if not the terms they agreed to upon employment and then retirement. If so, then to what end? One has to ask what the purpose of such whistle-blowing might be if the threat is real and it is not the wish of the authorities that it be known (see ‘a’ above). If it is as Mercer implies and there’s a pattern of senior police and army intelligence officers privately expressing concern about a specific threat to the Tory party conference, why is this specific threat not being dealt with through the usual channels? Most probably because it doesn’t exist:

Laurence Robertson, a Conservative MP who chairs a British parliamentary committee on Northern Ireland, told Sky he had no information that dissident nationalists planned a mainland bombing campaign…” (source)

(c) This leaves us with the possibility that Patrick Mercer’s sources have succumbed to bullshit or fantasy, or (more likely, in my view) Patrick Mercer himself introduced/positioned mention of a specific threat (while simultaneously leaving himself some wiggle room for later);

[Mercer] said: “They want to kill by the end of August in order to get themselves poised for whatever operations they can mount in September leading up to the Tory party conference in early October. There are doubts over whether they have the capability, but the aspiration is certainly there and West Midlands police would be crazy not to take the threat seriously.” – (source)

“I have no doubt there is an aspiration, a hope, a desire to bomb the mainland (Britain) and probably the Tory (Conservative) or indeed any of the party political conferences,” Mercer told Sky News. – (source)

In short, I fail to see how this is any different to past media alerts by Mercer that threaten to do more harm than good, and I suspect the primary component of this alert is Mercer’s wish to gain some positive publicity and re-establish himself as a credible spokesperson on terrorism.

-

[Psst! If CCHQ plan to play up the perceived threat in order to pressure police into providing added security for their conference that the taxpayer will have to pay for (i.e. neatly keeping anti-Tory protestors at bay at no cost to them while simultaneously associating them with militant elements), then Cameron may as well start rolling tanks into Heathrow and be done with it.]

Glen Jenvey arrested? Patrick Mercer: “No comment”

The following is a transcript from a telephone interview conducted recently with Patrick Mercer:

Tim Ireland: Do you have any comment on your Parliamentary Question of February 2009, made in response to evidence produced by Glen Jenvey?

Patrick Mercer: I’m afraid I have no comment.

Tim Ireland: Do you have any comment on your staff using that same Parliamentary Question as collateral when peddling an ‘exclusive’ story to the Times and Dennis Rice Media?

Patrick Mercer: I’m afraid I have no comment.

Tim Ireland: Do you have any comment on reports that Glen Jenvey was recently arrested, and had his computers seized?

Patrick Mercer: I’m afraid I have no comment.

Tim Ireland: Are you in any way concerned about what police might find on those computers?

Patrick Mercer: I’m afraid I have no comment.

Tim Ireland: When did you last hear from Dominic Wightman?

Patrick Mercer: I’m afraid I have no comment.

Tim Ireland: OK, thank you. This re….*

(line goes dead)

1. At present we only have Glen Jenvey’s claim that he was arrested to go on, and no specifics on what charges there are (if any). But if he was arrested, it would be fair to speculate that it relates to some of what Glen Jenvey published around June/July/August of this year and how that changed in the eyes of the law when he later confessed that he wasn’t really a Muslim when he published it.

2. Neither the Times nor Dennis Rice Media saw fit to run with the story referenced above (even though – gawrsh! – it was fleshed out with a genuine Parliamentary Question).

3. This transcript is 100% accurate but, personally, I think that every answer could be improved with a little punctuation:

Patrick Mercer: I’m afraid. I have no comment.

Please be careful of your phrasing if mentioning Jenvey’s claims of an arrest, and please remember that the story here is Patrick Mercer being taken in by not one but two ‘amateur terrors experts’ (more) during his tenure as Shadow Minister for Homeland Security, and then Chairman of the House of Commons Sub-Committee on Counter-Terrorism.

Inexplicably, he still holds the latter position, and seeks to shape the government’s response to extremism and terrorism, when in my view he lacks sufficient wisdom or judgement to shape their response to party games and balloon animals.

UPDATE (01 Jan 2010) – News of Jenvey’s arrest was finally confirmed in yesterday’s Guardian. Details here.

Attempt no landing there

For the avoidance of doubt;

- I am busy, and working behind the scenes on the main story; what Patrick Mercer and his staff are hiding (and, to a lesser extent, the lengths they will go to in order to keep it a secret).

- I did not write the email that Dominic Wightman is using as his latest plot device; but I invite you to read his illuminating response to it.

- If you receive anything that claims to be from me and it seems unexpected, unusual or in any way out of character, please use this address to check with me first (noting the ‘s’ in bloggerheadS’):

( bloggerheads DOT com AT gmail DOT com )

- I am also working on objects of artistic merit at the moment, so if there are no new developments on the main story, I will probably not be blogging, but instead building. Your most likely ‘live’ feed during this period is my Twitter channel.

Cheers all. Please write a letter to your MP if you haven’t already done so.

UPDATE (09 Oct) – Unity – Second Tabloid Terror Threat Story Exposed as a Fake

I predict another awkward silence from Patrick Mercer, and Daniel Jones of The People. What Wightman will have to say about it is anybody’s guess.

Dominic Wightman: follow the leader

Dominic Wightman has, since the very beginning of the more recent attacks on me, denied having anything to do with the ‘Cheerleaders’ who are doing the bulk of the dirty work (which mainly involves the repeated publication of my home address, but has recently escalated into none-too-subtle threats of violence).

Yesterday, he issued a further public denial, insisting that I was “paranoid” and describing the idea of their working together as “ludicrous”.

He has also encouraged Richard Bartholomew to share these recent emails with me:

“It must be easy for you both with so many enemies and the electronic stalker with so much paranoia to see a bloc assault. You’re wrong and the authorities have been made aware of the lies behind the suggestion I have yoked powers with these Cheerleaders as one might call in the Picts… no need for their help. I have emailed… twice now to tell them to stop providing you people with smear material with their base attacks. Also to suggest to them that silence works better…. I have no sway over these baying hordes.” – Dominic Wightman

“As one of Tim’s friends it might be a good idea for you to point out to him that he cannot contact me by email. He sent me an email at 11.11 am this morning regarding some alleged posts / tweets by someone else. He acknowledged on his blog that I sent him a cease and desist letter three weeks ago which he has now infringed. I have today informed my lawyers of his infringement. If he emails me again, I shall not hesitate to inform the police. To help him deal with his problems I have now blocked his email address. I’d greatly appreciate your intervention in this matter – I get the impression Tim cannot help himself or perhaps does not understand the gravity of his actions. He has attempted thrice in recent weeks to contact me through third parties but, as agreed (since my cease and desist is a forced mutual arrangement) I resisted replying.” – Dominic Wightman

I have no idea what he’s talking about with these “third parties”, unless he’s referring to my recent efforts to have the Conservative MP for Guildford Anne Milton clarify what her relationship is with this man and/or his [blood relative] (answer; she has met the former “before, in passing” but will not discuss the latter on the basis that they are a constituent).

As for my sending him a single email since he shoved his absurd ‘cease and desist’ demand through my letterbox, well – H-E-double-toothpicks – just call me guilty (with one hell of an excuse).

As with Iain Dale’s equally absurd legal threats (that Wightman is mimicking), they are meaningless enough on their own, but rendered completely inert when the person who claims they just want to be left alone manipulates others into attacking me and/or attacks me themselves while hiding behind anonymous comments*.

(*If Iain Dale would care to deny making anonymous comments on his own website, I am happy to start the conversation there, but it would end with irrefutable evidence of his knowingly taking advantage of them, even if he did not author them himself. And just in case Iain has forgotten our conversation of last year, this post should remind him that I am capable of identifying participating IP addresses on certain types of Blogger.com-hosted weblogs.)

A lot of what has been published about me on YouTube recently is, in the view of others, obviously Wightman’s work, but it’s hard to establish or prove anything in that environment (unless someone is as stupid as that Grant Shapps fellow).

However, in recent days, someone has strayed out of that environment and posted this message to a Blogger.com-hosted weblog:

This comment describes me as a “nutter and a bully” that “for years has abused and stalked his victims”. It not only matches the Cheerleaders justifications for their attacks almost word for word, it rather cheekily drops a hint about where I live during that group’s campaign to reveal my home address to people/groups who are hostile to me.

Oh, and the IP address used to post it is exactly the same as the IP address used by Dominic Wightman to send the recent email (above) to Richard Bartholomew.

There’s other correlating evidence, but from the IP data alone, there is little doubt that the above comment was made by Dominic Wightman himself.

Wightman’s legal threats are less than bluster; they are dishonest in nature, as he has no plans to maintain anything but the illusion of a dignified silence. In fact, he seeks to launch unwarranted attacks against me while accusing me of launching unwarranted attacks against him.

As for his claim that I am “paranoid” and his assertion that any notion of his working together with the Cheerleaders is “ludicrous”… well, I’ll let this email exchange with Dominic Wightman (using his ‘Richard Walker’ alias) speak for itself:

Ludas Matyi aka Charlie Flowers. Chief Cheerleader (likely the only one there is as far as I know).
I met him the month before after I had been put in touch by him online with Gina Khan – the Muslim activist who gets bricks through her window from [snip]‘s mates. Thought him odd. Odd enough to collect an insurance policy on Jenvey with.
Turns out he did rather well.
I don’t like all his childish crap on the web and me feels he is suffering from one too may LSD hauntings, still, when he’s sane he’s an agreeable fellow. Van driver.
Between you and me of course…..

So there’s (Cheerleader) Gina Khan quoted by Wightman himself as the person who introduced him to (Cheerleader) Charlie Flowers (the same man who is now offering to drop by my house so we can settle matters with a fist fight).

Wightman then went on use Flowers in carefully-planned venture against his former partner Glen Jenvey (Flowers went in posing as a reporter, armed with questions provided by Wightman).

Ludicrous? Try instead ‘entirely f**king plausible with a clear precedent’.

If you are going to be a liar, you need a far better memory than Dominic Wightman’s, and if he’d care to take a closer look at our past email correspondence, he might realise that I have little interest in attacking him, and only wish to set the record straight on recent events.

-

UPDATE – See also this updated post by Richard Bartholomew, which includes further evidence of Dominic Wightman’s duplicity. The cheeky bastard is (consciously or otherwise) mimicking Dale to the extent of hinting that I might be inventing these attacks just to get attention/him/Tories.

Meet Charlie Flowers (aka Ludas Matyi)

Charlie Flowers (aka ‘Ludas Matyi’) is the ringleader of a group who call themselves the ‘Cheerleaders*’; they turned up at the beginning of the Jenvey saga, and continued to pester myself and others until Dominic Wightman intervened. Now it’s in Wightman’s interests that I suffer for what he did to me (!) these ‘Cheerleaders’ have suddenly/mysteriously returned with a vengeance, and have been repeatedly publishing my home address online and broadcasting it to audiences that are hostile to me alongside claims that I am a bully, a stalker, a Nazi, and an ally of religious extremists. The refusal of certain bloggers (and a serving MP) to intervene or even clarify what they claim to be fair comment has greatly enabled these people, but that’s a matter for a later post.

(*They are also members of a band called the ‘Fighting Cocks’. I have snipped the signature with the links to their MySpace, Twitter, Facebook etc. pages, as I do not want to start a trend of offering free website publicity in exchange for threats/intimidation. Oh, and here, Charlotte Gore finally gets the free publicity she’s hungry for. Well done, you. Thanks for your input. Hope you enjoyed the passing mention.)

The short version is that I suspect Dominic Wightman of (again) manipulating others into doing his dirty work for him. Unless he has been using multiple false identities, Charlie Flowers has been doing the same in two ways; by having his hangers-on use their accounts for the primary instances of harassment, and by seeing to it that my home address is sent/broadcast to people the ‘Cheerleaders’ think will line up and have a go.

Recent repeated messages from a Cheerleader member nicknamed ‘Shooter’ insisted that – contrary to what I and others had claimed – they were willing to engage in their attacks while using their real names, so I dropped a line to the two members of their group who used their real names online, and had reliable contact details (Dan Wilde and Gina Khan). A copy of my email to Dan Wilde is quoted in the correspondence below. Rather than publicly stand by the actions of the group, Wilde forwarded this email to the ringleaders, who immediately published it alongside a whole lot of ‘Ireland is a Nazi’ nonsense.

They then made what was to be their final entry in their ‘Cheerleadered’ account on Twitter, before it was finally suspended. That message repeated my home address, and finished with the message:

“….AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!”

Now that you’ve got the background, I can allow this recent correspondence to speak for itself:

[Psst! 'Matyi' (Charlie Flowers) failed to give any reason for proposing a fist fight, and consistently refused to put his name to any of this while implying that I am a coward. There is no lie of omission here (as there was in Iain Dale's since-deleted 'Parish Notice' post). I have corrected a typo involving his nickname (it is 'Matyi', not 'Mayti'); further snips and other changes to the body of the emails are in square brackets and the highlight of the correspondence is emphasised in red (for the browsing convenience of those with short attention spans).]

Mr Ireland;
With regard to your email copied in below, I have consulted with Matty H, Rivers, and Dan, and we have decided that the best way forward if you have a problem with The Fighting Cocks is to settle matters with a Straightener.
This can be at any fairground event near where you live, or at a Canvey Island event that runs regularly; we can send details nearer the time. You will need to bring MMA gloves in your size, and you will be fighting me, with one of my crew refereeing.
I expect an answer back within 24 hours, either way.
Yours

Dear Dan,

Are you in any way involved with the Cheerleaders and/or their past/present attacks on people they accuse of extremism, Nazism, etc.?

This post includes examples of some of their recent attacks (scroll down t the screengrab):

http://www.bloggerheads.com/archives/2009/09/dominic-whiteman.asp

I ask because certain members are insisting that they are not afraid to engage in such attacks when using their real names, and they object to me (and other) claiming otherwise.

I would therefore like to draw up as complete a list of names as possible for publication (and/or presentation to police), starting with Charlie Flowers and working my way down

Cheers

I’ve never met you, we’ve had no major disagreement that I’m aware of, you’ve not even managed to articulate what you have against me beyond these recent accusations of stalking that no reasonable person will stand by, and now you’re challenging me to a fist fight (while implicating everybody on this email list in your recent efforts to harass and intimidate me).

Unless you plan on giving me a simple list of the real names* of the people involved in the repeated broadcast of my personal details (something ‘Shooter’ insisted was not an issue) and/or admitting to the role played by Dominic Wightman in this matter, we have nothing further to discuss.

Charlie,

My position is clear; you have not provided adequate grounds for proposing this fist fight (see: “I’ve never met you, we’ve had no major disagreement that I’m aware of, you’ve not even managed to articulate what you have against me beyond these recent accusations of stalking that no reasonable person will stand by”) and despite many assurances from your corner that you and your partners don’t care about the consequences of your recent actions, you have yet to even acknowledge that Charlie Flowers is your real name.

Charlie,

If that’s threat to come to my home and start a fist fight regardless of what I agree to, then please have the courage to put your name to it. Otherwise, we’re done here.

Charlie,

You still haven’t told me what it is that you want to settle and why. You won’t even make this invitation (or any of the accompanying threats) under your own name. I don’t know who I will be fighting or why.

You appear to imply that I’m a coward in the hope that I’ll act like a fool. Sorry, no dice.

Who am I invited to fight and why?

I’m Matyi. If you have a problem with the Fighting Cocks, we fight to settle it. I will book the venue with Joe Pyle. You’re either up for it or not, if you contact me again I’ll consider it on, and we’ll book it. If not, we’re done here.

And Shooter can do what she wants.

FYI:

I won’t be knowingly contacting ‘Matyi’ (aka Charlie Flowers) again, as doing so may give him the false impression that he has some kind of agreement for a fist fight (with no purpose that he can articulate) when no such agreement exists, and this likely to set him on a path to disappointment (or an assault charge).

Unless told otherwise by anyone having/wanting no part of this, I will be assuming that everybody CCed on this conversation (i.e. everyone receiving this email) has played a willing part in the repeated publication of my personal details, as well as this evening’s attempt at intimidation.

I’ll allow 12 hours for any replies.

The ‘Cheerleaders’ have now published extracts of this correspondence on their Facebook page, accusing me of cowardice (because everybody settles ill-defined differences with fist-fights, don’tcha know).

Obviously, the police will be made aware of all of this, not that this is likely to help with the immediate situation.

Today, I am seriously discussing with my wife not the ifs/buts, but the whens/wheres of moving her and the kids to a safe/unknown location.

Judging by their track record and past trolling technique, I have little doubt that this will lead to jeers from the ‘Cheerleaders’, who will then go on to assure one and all that I’m hysterical and they’re harmless, but even if I’m going to take them at their word on that, I also have to take into account:

a) The many people these ‘Cheereladers’ have sent/broadcast my home address to

b) The lies these ‘Cheerleaders’ have been putting about publicly and privately (see below; like Mercer and Dale, the Cheerleaders choose to be a little more… creative in their accusations when out of the public eye)

c) The 50+ false claims that I am a convicted paedophile that Glen Jenvey (the author) is unable to remove and Google (the host) refuses to delete

We live in a country where paediatricians are the targets of mobs of illiterate tabloid readers, so I don’t think I’m wrong to be this worried…. and I think I have every right to call out the following Conservatives on their ongoing bullshit:

- Perhaps today Dominic Wightman would care to publish a statement about his relationship with Charlie Flowers and the ‘Cheerleaders’.

- Perhaps today Patrick Mercer would care to publish a statement about his relationship with Dominic Wightman.

- Perhaps today Iain Dale would like to clarify and justify what he told Mercer that might prompt him to describe me privately as an “electronic stalker” (and if he won’t make his case publicly, then perhaps he will finally recognise that the time is way past due for him to withdraw what he’s been putting about privately while claiming to ‘ignore’ me).

Or perhaps (and this is far more likely) all three of these Conservatives will continue to stand back and pretend that it’s none of their affair, tell their friends and colleagues that it’s all a lot of fuss over nothing, broadcast claims that I am paranoid and/or imagining things, whisper that I deserve this for being so mean to Tories in general, assure their fellow party members that they are behaving strictly within the laws/rules, etc. etc. etc.

Patrick Mercer, Dominic Whiteman and the Cheerleaders

First of all, I should point out that Dominic Whiteman was the name used by Mercer’s (one assumes former) associate throughout their involvement with/via the organisation known as ‘Vigil’, but Dominic Wightman was the named used by bailiffs when they came calling (i.e. after Vigil failed to stay afloat on the illusion of numbers and mere promises of money).

Secondly, I should also make clear that, while I am not at all happy with the company he’s been keeping, Glen Jenvey (now Omar Hamza Jenvey) has ceased his attacks on me and any/all involvement in the shadowy world of amateur espionage. Further, he has also had the good grace to apologise. So while the question of Mercer’s level of involvement with Jenvey and his earlier deceptions remains open, any significant personal disagreement with Jenvey himself is firmly in the past.

Finally, before we get started, for the benefit of newcomers and regulars, I should also point out that these latest attacks on me happen primarily at the instigation of Dominic Wightman (who now also appears to have played a significant role in manipulating Jenvey into his ill-advised attacks). Most of the more actionable publications have been made using accounts in the name(s) of a group of people who call themselves the ‘Cheerleaders’ (who now claim to be terribly brave on the basis that some of their lesser members have been publishing my home address while using their ‘real names’), but this is simply another case of Dominic Wightman manipulating other people into doing his dirty work for him.

Wightman’s recent claims that he has only enjoyed light/tangential contact with these ‘Cheerleaders’ are lies, and I can prove it.

OK, there’s your basic sandwich… now, here’s the meat:

Patrick Mercer was recently forced into a humiliating climb-down after declaring that any suggestion that his office had worked with Jenvey was “a damaging lie”. Leaving aside that this ‘damaging lie’ came from his own earlier statement, Mercer was also proved wrong by evidence showing a working relationship between Jenvey and his office as late as March 2009. This resulted in “sources close to the MP” muttering something about it all depending on what your definition of ‘working’ is.

With tip of the hat to Richard Bartholomew for refreshing my memory, I now bring you further evidence that Patrick Mercer’s office also worked with Dominic Wightman (aka Dominic Whiteman):

Telegraph – Working on the internet from an anonymous city office, the shadowy figures exposing Islamic extremism
By Andrew Alderson, Chief Reporter
Published: 12:01AM GMT 19 Nov 2006

Vigil’s founders believe that the police, security and intelligence services are so overstretched that they need help. The organisation seeks to make Britain a safer place by disrupting and exposing terrorist activity. It is also working with media groups to highlight the threat from Muslim extremists… Only two of its staff are willing to be identified. One is Dominic Whiteman, its director and spokesman… The other Vigil operator willing to be identified is Glen Jenvey, 42, a freelance counter-intelligence investigator from Wiltshire…

Scotland Yard* confirmed it was “working closely with Vigil, particularly its director and spokesman who has made officers aware of chat-room material. This material will be considered and appropriate action taken.”

Patrick Mercer, the Tory spokesman for homeland security, has also worked with Vigil.

He said that he had been impressed by the group’s professionalism. “Anything of this nature that helps the security services has to be encouraged,” he said.

(*Scotland Yard, I will get to later…. if given the opportunity. They’ve been a bit shy about clarifying statements themselves.)

Glen Jenvey was behind this attack.

Dominic Wightman was behind a further attack, and is instrumental in these latest attacks (that include broadcasting of my home address to parties likely to be hostile to me, and repeated suggestions that I go back to the country I came from).

So that’s three attacks by two people who have worked in conjunction with Patrick Mercer’s office as part of that MP’s fight for publicity struggle against extremism/terrorism.

Patrick Mercer could have ended this matter within days way back in January 2009, simply by considering the evidence, (including Jenvey’s accusations that the PCC were in league with extremists) arriving at the obvious conclusion, and making a statement… but this would have undermined his credibility (and, subsequently, that of the House of Commons Sub-Committee on Counter-Terrorism).

By not doing so, Mercer allowed The Sun to use his endorsement – with or without his knowledge – in their letter to the PCC, and kept the resulting dispute(s) going for weeks and then months; this delay in addressing the issue allowed Dominic Wightman to eventually catch wind of it and seek to exploit it (in order to exact revenge against his former ‘anti-terror’ associates, including Mercer).

Patrick Mercer was then privy to all sorts of information that would have caused him or any sensible person in his position to at least suspect the involvement of Dominic Wightman, particularly after the first and second attacks against me (when details not available to the general public were made available to his office and brought directly to his attention). Patrick Mercer chose not to involve himself or release/say anything beyond a single vague hint (that came weeks too late)… most probably because this too would have undermined his credibility (and, subsequently, that of the House of Commons Sub-Committee on Counter-Terrorism).

By avoiding any involvement or statement about his past/present relationship with Dominic Wightman, Mercer preserved his reputation in most quarters as a credible man of sound judgement… while he and/or his office staff stood by and allowed me to be smeared as a convicted paedophile, then an alcoholic with long-standing mental problems, and now a stalker.

Further, Mercer appears to have played an active role in the third/latest smear by privately making the quite specific (and false) claim to people asking questions about this matter that I am an “electronic stalker” and therefore not to be trusted.

He does this while knowing that I am being harassed/attacked by people who seek to intimidate me into silence and/or chase me out of the country.

The less charitable among you might be inclined to suspect that he is secretly hoping they will succeed.

Those of you who still have faith in his party or this Parliament will trust that he will not be allowed to do so in the face of this level of harassment, especially when it is now fuelled in part by his own false accusations:

an extract of recent threats and harassment

G20: Callum Winton may wish to revise his eyewitness statement(s)

Callum Winton is a professional photographer who has recently started blogging, and was present at the G20 event where Ian Tomlinson was assaulted by a disguised police officer and later died.

I need to note from the outset that Winton appears to have been present for the entire event, but clearly did not witness the actual assault itself.

This footage taken by a member of the public and passed to the IPCC and the Guardian newspaper includes footage of the photographer, as he notes himself on his blog:

“New footage has been released of the Ian Tomlinson incident …. and in it plain as day is wee me taking pictures (long black coat, white shirt, blue jeans). http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/video/2009/apr/21/g20-ian-tomlinson-new-video” – Callum Winton on his blog (source)

This first screen capture (00:31) shows Winton walking past Tomlinson as the police line advances toward them:

screen capture from video: click to play

The assault is not captured in this footage, but the camera swings around just in time to catch Tomlinson hitting the ground, and to show that Winton’s view of Tomlinson is blocked by a building/pillar. This second screen capture (00:49 and 01:05) and shows Winton seemingly unaware of Tomlinson’s assault as he turns away to inspect his camera:

screen capture from video: click to play

Note how Callum Winton is oblivious to the crowd’s reaction to the event.

Note also that the police are herding the public, which leads to the assault preceding Tomlinson’s collapse.

The first Tomlinson video to be released will help you to better appreciate these aspects and the general surroundings/mood at the time of the assault.

Also, please keep in mind that something between 3 to 5 minutes passes (timeline) before Tomlinson collapses after walking off in the same direction as Winton.

So, time passes, and Tomlinson collapses. Callum Winton does not witness the collapse, but happens across the prone figure of Tomlinson. He takes some pictures, notices the man is not well, then goes back to the police line and alerts them to Tomlinson’s condition:

“When I was there I found a man that had collapsed. I took a couple of pics of him and then I realised he was in trouble. So I ran and got the police, but by the time we got back I think he’d passed away.” – Callum Winton on his blog (source)

Callum Winton then returns to the scene of Tomlinson’s collapse at the same time as the police.

Compare the picture taken upon his return showing the woman protestor treating Tomlinson to this other video provided to the Guardian newspaper, where four things can be seen in quick succession:

00:10 – The woman protestor treating Tomlinson is moved away by police, who proceed to treat Tomlinson themselves

00:18 – A single clear (probably plastic) bottle is thrown, angering and dismaying the crowd

00:23 – Callum Winton, now on the other side of Tomlinson, can be seen no more than 12-15ft feet from where that single missile landed (after striking a police officer on the arm at about waist height)

00:25 – Mr ‘Back The Fuck Up’ swings into action, making it clear to those not within immediate earshot that someone is hurt. The crowd is unhappy, but eager to cooperate. No other missiles are captured in the footage.

It is at this stage that we turn to a Sun article published the day after this event.

Callum Winton appears to be the single source for this entire article, pictures and all, though when he blogs about it, he appears to be quite surprised:

“A new day and a new surprise. One of the pics I took of the man last night was used by The Sun newspaper on pg.6″ – Callum Winton on his blog (source)

(Note – Mr Winton later blogs that he intends to donate the “fair price for any freelance images they’ve used” to charity.)

The best I can make out from what’s been published by The Sun, and what’s been published and claimed by Callum Winton, is that a Sun reporter took a statement at some stage and Winton was unaware that he was doing so and/or was unaware that the man taking it was a Sun reporter or somehow connected to that newspaper. However it happened, Callum Winton winds up as the only named witness in a short article also containing his pictures:

Keen tabloid observers will note the headline that might suggest to casual observers that it was the bottles themselves that killed Tomlinson.

Also, take note of the claim that beer bottles and cans were thrown, as we’ll be getting back to this shortly:

The Sun – Man dies as bottles lobbed at rescuers (2 Apr, 2009)

POLICE were battered with beer bottles and cans as they desperately tried to save a dying man at the height of the G20 riots in London last night.

The casualty, believed to be in his mid-40s, was knocked to the floor amid the mob near the Bank of England.

But when cops struggled through the crowd to reach him, they were pelted with missiles. They finally got to him and set up a cordon as two ambulances rushed to the scene.

Officers gave the man mouth-to-mouth before paramedics tried in vain to save him.

Photographer Callum Winton, 37, said: “A guy was lying on the ground. His eyes were glazed over, he didn’t look at all well.

“I told the police and they tried to reach him — but were being forced back by the protesters. There were bottles and missiles raining down on them.”

The man, shaven headed and wearing a Millwall FC top with a grey T-shirt over the top, died at the scene.

Callum added: “Police were trying to break up the crowd, which was getting out of control, throwing things at buildings.

“Officers charged and pushed them back to get them away from buildings. It was chaos.”

Please take care to note that while this article does so poorly and is prone to misinterpretation, it does relate a sequence of a events where police were pelted with multiple missiles prior to their treatment of Tomlinson, and not during as some people have been suggesting.

The police, for example, claimed at one stage that they felt compelled to move Mr Tomlinson because of the missiles thrown during his treatment:

“The officers took the decision to move him as during this time a number of missiles – believed to be bottles – were being thrown at them.” – Met statement (source)

And Callum Winton made a similar claim on his weblog on the day of the event:

screen capture from Callum's blog

“I took [this picture] while the police were working on reviving the man amid flying bottles and breaking glass.” – Callum Winton on his blog (source)

At or about the same time that Callum Winton was taking this picture (large version), the video footage described above showing the cordon/treatment of Tomlinson was being captured from almost directly behind him:

screen capture from video: click to play

Callum Winton is unlikely to have seen and heard something very different to what was captured on video here, because as Winton himself has confirmed via email, he is in the foreground of the video footage while looking at the same event (i.e. he sees and hears the almost the same visual and audio information that the camera records).

That video footage shows a single clear bottle being thrown. That bottle does not appear to smash on impact, and is most likely plastic from what we can see/hear of the footage.

The police were certainly not “working on reviving the man amid flying bottles and breaking glass”, unless the mood changed quite suddenly after this footage was taken just in time for Callum Winton to capture the image he claims to have taken “amid flying bottles and breaking glass” (that doesn’t actually show any flying bottles or breaking/broken glass) just before the police moved Tomlinson to avoid the “number* of missiles” being thrown a them.

(*People sometimes forget that ‘one’ is a number.)

I’ve since emailed Callum Winton and asked him about a few of these conflicts and inconsistencies:

1. Three times he avoided answering a specific question about him being the likely/implied source of the claim that beer bottles and cans were thrown. He would not confirm or deny being the source of this claim, but I should point out that it’s just as likely that this was added as (ahem) a dramatic touch by someone at The Sun with an active if limited imagination and/or an anti-protestor agenda. (Callum Winton’s statements on his blog also make it clear that he did not see Tomlinson being ‘knocked down’ by the mob or anyone else.)

2. Callum Winton claimed that “3 Bottles were thrown. No cans.” and that “they were thrown and hit the building above our heads so that we were showered in glass.” He also pointed out, as he did in his statement to The Sun, that “all the protestors turned against the people throwing them shouting at them to stop as the police medics were trying to help Mr.T”, so while he appears to be describing the same events seen in this video, there are a number of glass missiles that should be visible and audible (according to his account), but are not.

3. I say ‘glass missiles‘ because Mr Winton also stated that he did not actually see any missiles in their pre-impact state. He could only say that “it was glass in one form or another” and “solid like bottles”. So The Sun article opens with a paragraph stating that; “police were battered with beer bottles and cans”… but the only named witness in that article did not see any cans thrown and was not in a position to identify any missile as a beer bottle specifically, or even as a glass bottle generally.

Mr Winton had nothing of relevance to add after seeing the video footage that casts so much doubt on his version of events, but he did take the time to assure me that it was suddenly none of my business, and that if I wished to speak with him further it would have to be on a professional basis:

“I’m a working photographer, so if you want a couple of hours of my time then you can book me for a portrait session. You bring bottles and I’ll bring a camera ;o)” – Callum Winton

I think that last part may have been a joke, but being a humourless lefty I can’t really be sure.

Anyway, just between you and me and everyone else who thinks this is their business, I suspect that Callum Winton might be a little bit confused.

I don’t mean that in a nasty ‘mental’ tag way, I mean… well, just take a look at this account of Winton’s as related by The Sun:

(Do keep in mind that the police line Winton returns to is in the process of herding the crowd as part of a kettling operation, and that they drove Tomlinson before them after one of their number had assaulted him. In other words, the police have contributed to Tomlinson’s condition, and created the circumstances that allegedly make it difficult to reach him. All of this applies regardless of what is thrown where and when.)

But when cops struggled through the crowd to reach him, they were pelted with missiles. They finally got to him and set up a cordon as two ambulances rushed to the scene… Photographer Callum Winton, 37, said: “A guy was lying on the ground. His eyes were glazed over, he didn’t look at all well. I told the police and they tried to reach him — but were being forced back by the protesters. There were bottles and missiles raining down on them.” – Callum Winton as quoted by The Sun

Now, this statement and the way it’s presented/introduced allows for (and appears to specifically, if clumsily, describe) circumstances where multiple glass missiles and/or bottles were thrown and/or police were impeded to some extent some distance from Tomlinson, before he was surrounded and treated by police. But remember that the day before it was published, Callum Winton had written on his weblog that he had witnessed this barrage of missiles during the period in which he was surrounded/treated by police:

“I took [this picture] while the police were working on reviving the man amid flying bottles and breaking glass.” – Callum Winton on his blog (source)

The evidence would suggest that Callum missed the assault and the collapse, but then happened across the (lone?) prone figure of Ian Tomlinson, took a few pictures, went to get help, witnessed the smashing of bottles at some stage some distance away from Tomlinson, before returning to witness the treatment of Tomlinson by police, seeing a single plastic bottle thrown at that moment and later compressing/conflating the two events to unfortunate effect.

The “beer bottles and cans” are likely to be a fanciful addition to the tale courtesy of the tabloid press, but it is equally possible that Callum Winton registered the way Ian Tomlinson looked or smelled (and/or the people around him talking of Tomlinson’s drunken state) on some level, conscious or not, and simply added the word ‘beer’ to ‘bottle’ without even thinking about what this might imply.

Winton had not witnessed the assault and did not even register the crowd’s reaction to it (which is a likely cause of any extraordinary disturbance Winton describes when he goes to fetch the police from the same location where police have stood by after one of their own assaulted a member of the public).

Further, Winton appears to be a stranger to the lifestyle of Ian Tomlinson and your typical socially-conscious protestor**. It would be very easy for a man in his position to confuse, blur or totally misunderstand the relationship between an apparently drunken man and a crowd that appears (to him) to be angry for no good reason.

(**Note – on the latter, he has consistently described the day as “the G20 riots” in his communication with me.)

So please understand that I’m not judging or demonising Mr Winton, but I really think that he should spend some time thinking about the statements he has volunteered to the newspapers and to the IPCC, and seriously considering clarifying them, at least to the extent that they don’t appear quite so contradictory.

And I’m not going to hold my breath, but The Sun really needs to withdraw that claim that “police were battered with beer bottles and cans as they desperately tried to save a dying man” if they can’t produce a witness or evidence to back it up.

Ditto for any implication that he was “knocked to the floor amid the mob” by anyone but a policeman.
