« The result you've all been waiting for... | Main | The 'lone obsessive' strikes again »

May 4, 2007

Ladies and gentlemen, it is now official...

Mike Chambers is a loser.

Chris Ward, the victim of the smears Chambers was spreading via an anonymous weblog, beat him by a hefty margin.

The Milky Bars are on me.

(Psst! For those who missed it, check out Mike's 'election broadcast'. Gotta love that casual setting... I always drink mineral water from a champagne glass as I type on my laptop... in a field.)

UPDATE (4:15pm) - And it's a close-but-no-banana for Dennis Paul!

Listen... do you hear that? No, it's not a teeny, tiny violin... it's a lonely pint in the pub that's calling my name.

UPDATE (4:25pm) - Oh, now this is the crowning touch... in the last few minutes Dennis Paul appears to have deleted his entire official weblog. (Don't worry; I saved copies of all the good stuff.)

UPDATE (4:40pm) - I can now confirm that Dennis has indeed deleted his entire weblog... I know this because Blogger.com allowed me to snap up his old address. The Dennis Paul weblog is dead... long live the Dennis Paul weblog!

UPDATE (4:48pm) - Tch. Mike has taken his video offline. I'd do something about that, but that pint is calling...

UPDATE (14 May) - Mike's official promotional website - formerly at the subdomain http://mike.ycge.com/ - was removed on 9 May. Mike's greenbait site remains live. Meanwhile...

It doesn't look like they want to play nice, does it?

I can't stop smiling... Just waiting for the Worplesdon one now

Me too.

:o)

In both cases (Dennis Paul and Mike Chambers), a victory would have made their antics more newsworthy, but the sheer satisfaction of seeing a sneaky little two-faced so-and-so try then fail - against the guy he was smearing - *cannot* be beat.

I'll be keeping a very close eye on the Jonesy blog in the coming hours/days... heaven knows what Chambers will get up to after crying into a pint or twelve.

"Hi, I'm Mike Chambers. You've caught me off-guard; I was just working from my office in the middle of a field, with my sunglasses on, like I always do."

That video's a piece of work; the rustling sound as his assistant turns the pages of the 'autocue'; he obviously doesn't know how microphones work.

Is that a child screaming in the background? Is he near a primary school? Perhaps Guido should be informed.

Astonishing that his multimedia grassroots blitz didn't get him elected.

"That video's a piece of work...."

Which is why I have saved a copy for the ages.

:o)

His online blitz gets more impressive as you delve into his website. Take a look at the cunning disguise he wears in an effort to win the student vote...

Against the Iraq war and marched against it (he went to one march and had 50-odd photos taken of himself):

Reads the Independent because he doesn't trust Murdoch (lovely picture on this page):
http://mike.ycge.com/chambersindependent.html

There's even a bit of Boris:
http://mike.ycge.com/hitboris.html

At one stage, I was half-expecting him to start bitching about Page 3... in an Australian accent.

That 'Independent' photograph is awesome - as is the press release to announce which newspaper he reads.

The thing that always amused me is that Mike always seems to jump on a bandwagon to get himself voted. In this election alone he has abused both the "Save the Royal Surrey" campaign and the "Young Champions of the Green Economy" group (admittedly he started this up). If they hadn't disowned him, I'm sure he would have used the UniS Conservative Society (http://society.conservative.com - have a close to look to see where this is hosted) as well

Heh. I was updating the post just as you popped by.

:o)

I've been refreshing that page for the last couple of hours. Typical that it's the last result in. Do you think that he threw his toys out of his pram and demanded a recount?

Afternoon chaps, the YouTube vid has been pulled.

Love to see it, though...

Worplesdon got a good turnout, what's going on there? I s'pose its just the posh area. We barely get above that for a general election where I live.

Though when we get to the stage when 48% is a good turnout then we might have a bit of a problem.

Dear Tim

I am wondering if you might be able to give me a steeer on how to deal with a blog-stalker?

This guy writes abusive posts and has told me: "your ass is mine" etc.

I have comment moderation on and also use an IP blocker.

He manages to get a new ip address. I've blocked 4 now and it hasn't stopped him.

His filth is emanating from Washington State in the US.

Is it possible that all these IP addresses come from one computer? Is there a way to shut this down?

I would be grateful if you would be able to shed some light on any further steps I can take.

Please feel free to publish this in any form that you like as we all need to know.

Kind regards
Kris

Congratulations to Chris Ward - great to see a fellow LDYSer get elected.

Am also delighted that those two got their just desserts! Keep up the good work!

Kris:

Short version - you need to upgrade to a hosted version of MT or WordPress. Blogger doesn't give you many options for moderating feedback and blocking/tracking abuse of the system.

cheers. It probably is time to make the move up.

Has anyone else noticed that 'Jonesy's' first name has suddenly changed?!
