Guardian – Sun front-page story on ‘terror target’ Sir Alan Sugar under investigation: The Press Complaints Commission is investigating a front-page story in the Sun newspaper that claimed Islamic extremists were targeting The Apprentice star Sir Alan Sugar. The PCC has launched an investigation and will consider whether Abuislam is Jenvey. The regulator has contacted the Sun and is awaiting the paper’s response. It is understood that the Sun story originated from a news agency. The Sun declined to comment on why it had removed the story from its website.
“It is understood that the Sun story originated from a news agency” is an interesting little fig leaf, isn’t it?

Good luck getting the PCC to investigate this; I’ve just finished reading Flat Earth News, and the number of cases that the PCC actually adjudicates on is frighteningly low; it is, after all, set up by the companies that it regulates.

Very good! Even if nothing comes of it, it gives the story greater exposure, and papers may be less inclined to rely upon such "experts".I note, however, that the Guardian forgot to mention that they subsequently reprinted the article. Ho hum…Ben

Is this verifiable? From what I recall the Press Association appeared midday on the 7th, but THe Sun article went to press at least 12 hours before.

I thought the Story was Sold on to the South West News Agency it had it on their website as "Recently sold" by Glen JenveyThen they sold it on to the Sun

I would very much like to see what specifically the South West News Agency sold to The Sun… and how much The Sun paid for it, and how much of that went to Glen Jenvey.

Hahahahaha! And I'd not noticed before now how *ahem* truly enterprising our Mr Jenvey was.The website that South West News Service – swns.com – uses to encourage people to send their stories in has the domain name sellusyourstory.comIt looks like Jenvey went through a period when he was trying to take a chunk out of the hand that was feeding him (with his similarly-named sellyourstory.org venture):https://www.bloggerheads.com/archives/2009/01/glen…I can't see that news agency backing or protecting Jenvey on the basis of any trust or loyalty; he's managed to drag their brand through the mud every which way.For those wishing to read up on these news agencies and how they work:http://www.wikijob.co.uk/forum/media/news-agencie…

LOL! at first i thought that the SWNS was actually Glen Jenveys Website got me worried when i first discovered it!
By Manic January 28, 2009 - 10:25 pm
I bet the SWNS were equally pleased about the similarities when they first found out about them.Agencies love it when people they pay good money to try to start their own agency. With a very similar name. And look.

Interesting. Does anyone have a history of the http://www.sellusyourstory.com/recentlysold.php page? Perhaps Jenvey has been making a regular income from this.Seems he would have made a couple of Gs from this.http://www.sellusyourstory.com/how.php"Our team will then approach the appropriate publications to find the best place and best possible price for your story. We'll keep you informed every step of the way and let you know your options. Once you have received an offer you are happy with, you will be asked to sign a contract. This guarantees you payment and also guarantees exclusitivity to your chosen publication.""Once the story is written, it will be read back to you to make sure you are happy. If you're not, then we will work together to make the necessary changes. Once you are satisfied it is sent over to the newspaper or magazine for publication. ""Sit back and wait for the money to roll in! You could earn £2,000 or more for a double-page spread in a newspaper but the sky's the limit. We can often place a story in a second publication after it has first appeared – meaning more money for you."Incidentally, someone's lying, either SWNS, or The Sun, when it claimed its journalists had written the story:http://www.sellusyourstory.com/faq.php"

Surely, btw, Mr. Jenvey is guilty of criminal behaviour, namely fraud, in obtaining payment from a story he knew to be false.Lock him up.

"Does anyone have a history of…."I've seen enough to know that tabloid fodder is their bread and butter:- Rambo the toughest swallow in britain- High risk proposal during mountain ordeal- Jealous parrot put on prozac- Arctic circle found in devon- Victim 'Too honest' to give yob fair trialAs for their past relationship with Jenvey, I'm sure we can just ask them and they'll be happy to volunteer the information.OK, stop laughing. And put that coffee down before you hurt yourself.Meanwhile, there's this, from Richard Bartholomew (who's done a lot of legwork and background on this case):"Jenvey's close friend 'Lionheart' has, for reasons of his own, decided to shunt a couple of recent stories off the front page of his blog. A blog entry about Jenvey and the Sun story has now been shifted back to November 2008, and an entry linking to his appearance on a US radio show on 14 January 2009 has been re-dated to 2001"http://barthsnotes.wordpress.com/2009/01/28/pcc-t…The main relocated/redated post headlined "Glen Jenvey & British Reporters threatened with beheading" and originally published 09 January 2009 (the day after Jenvey's fraud was uncovered here at Bloggerheads) can be found here… for now:http://lionheartuk.blogspot.com/2009/01/glen-jenv…Another relocated/redated post headlined "Ummah.com is a front for Al Qaeda in Britain", originally published 10 January 2009, can be found here… for now:http://lionheartuk.blogspot.com/2009/01/ummahcom-…Also, stashed back in his 2001 archive but originally published in Jan 2008, this year-old apology from Lionheart's author…http://lionheartuk.blogspot.com/2008/01/my-apolog…… whose views are so way way waaaay over to the right that he actually got a drumming from the Little Green Footballs crowd, who also note his 'memory hole' tricks with interest. Looks like he's a serial retro-moderator:http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=285…(if you are new here, I advise you to tread with caution anywhere on the LGF board)As for Jenvey and the whole money/fraud thing, I suspect that this is something we need to report ourselves, independent of the industry-based investigation conducted by the PCC, *and* I think The Sun's willingness to pay for stories like this warrants further discussion.

Just to clear up on the Guardian / PA use of this story.Press Association were running the story from as early as 6am, attributing it entirely to The Sun. Of course, in the circumstances, you can only hope that the original source is truthful…

This thing gets more and more weirder by the Day.Wonder what next! What baffles me is why lionheart has shifted his blog posts around! What next i wonder!
