UPDATE – Heh. I almost forgot that after the last time I linked to Comment Is Free and suggested that people (*gasp*) make a comment, the clever chap who sourced and sorted Iain Dale’s and Paul Staine’s redirect code saw fit to scream “Denial of service attack!”

Sorry to have to say it Tim but I think you overstepped the mark with your attacks on Iain on CiF yesterday. It had all the makings of a concerted onslaught of exactly the kind you have accused his "sock puppets" of conducting. Two wrongs don't make a right, you know.

Sorry you think that way, Paul… but beyond my linking to it, the objections raised were in no way concerted. Also, if you read the resulting thread in detail, you'll find a lot of valid points raised by one group of people, addressed primarily via abuse from another. If I had attempted to execute an equal wrong, I would have coordinated people behind the scenes, invented a few extra people to boost the numbers, and dismissed Iain's article and comments by calling him a chugger of cock.

Well, I'm happy to take your word for it that it wasn't co-ordinated and that all Iain's critics are real people, but I don't think it looked very good, that's all.[MOD: Duplicates removed. Database is touchy today. Often a sign that someone's throwing a bunch of crap at it. Trackback spammers, usually.]

That's appreciated, Paul.A few people were in touch via email yesterday, but the only behind the scenes activity of any import was a 'WTF?' exchange between Justin and myself after we both made the same response at almost exactly the same time following this comment (referenced above):http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/iain_dale/200…Oh, and the low-frequency radio waves that I was aiming at Justin's house.

I was one of the people who thought Dale was the wrong person to be talking about press freedom, and I can assure you that there was no organised attack; or at least, if there was, I wasn't told about it.
