The Lib-Dems appear to be the only party with a fully-functional battle-bush and campaign weblog. And the bloggage comes to us directly from the battle-bus. One day we will learn to fear their ruthless efficiency…
UPDATE – It turns out that ‘Honest’ John Prescott has his own battle-bus and baby-blog (when it grows up, it hopes to have a comments feature).
Craig Murray’s weblog is now open for business.
Two items:
1) Please link to the site or the weblog today to give Google a necessary wake-up call.
2) The campaign now has a theme song.
3) The campaign needs volunteers. Blackburn is an important seat where those who believe that torture is no laughing matter can really make a difference by calling Jack Straw to account. Click here to volunteer.
I need your feedback, people!
Start here:
Backing Blair – Here are our terms: Replace Blair with whomever you choose before the election, and we’ll withdraw from the field
Please make a comment in the thread linked above and then take it one step further by getting in touch with Peter Hain directly.
After yet another warning for us petulant protest voters (you can read an earlier one here), Peter Hain clearly needs to know that the problem isn’t us, it’s his leader. And that if he’s really concerned about the prospect of a significant protest vote, then he should address the problem itself, not the protestors.
You can get in touch with Peter Hain’s office by calling 01639 630152 or by emailing: neathoffice AT peterhain DOT org
UPDATE – More at Chicken Yoghurt.
Existing Actually makes an interesting comment here on the following article. I’ve highlighted the same passage…
New Statesman – How to give Blair a bloody nose: All that said, the only sure way to keep the Tories out is to vote Labour. The NS offers this guide in a spirit of public service. We do not recommend anti-Blair tactical voting – but it is better than staying at home and not voting at all.
Jesus H Christ… it’d be nice to see a little nerve, wouldn’t it? How are these people going to feel when Blair skates home and he assures us all that the election result amounts to a ringing endorsement of his policies regarding Iraq and the ‘war’ on terror?
Three plugs:
UKelect.co.uk – they have some forecasts they wish to share with you
Vote2005forum.org.uk – they invite you to discuss matter relating to the election
Ringverse.co.uk – is dedicating their time to watching Blair
And here’s someone else keeping an eye on Blair…
Independent – ‘Rent-a-crowds’ ensure nothing is left to chance on campaign trail: When Tony Blair and Gordon Brown launched an election campaign poster this week in front of an enthusiastic crowd, some members of their audience may have felt they had heard it all before. The politicians’ words may have been familiar, and so were some of the faces of the background crowd.
Sunday Times – Focus: Blair goes wooing with DVDs and rent-a-crowd after being warned it’s no walkover: The meetings with “ordinary” people have been staged to give the right impression. Some people have turned out to be Labour’s “rent a crowd”, with the same photogenic families appearing at different events. As one party insider privately admitted: “It doesn’t matter if Tony only meets a handful of people on a particular day; the TV pictures will get to millions of voters.”
Also, there’s this…
Guardian – There’s no avoiding Blair on opposition pamphlets but for Labour, not a sign: Try as they might, there is one word that Labour MPs can’t bring themselves to mention on election bumph now thudding on to doormats. T-O-N-Y. You know, the prime minister, the leader of the Labour party – that charismatic young barrister who got many of them elected in the first place eight years ago.
And, finally – a little self-publicising to get the blood up…
Sunday Herald – Bloggers ready for general election debut: With the British general election now officially announced will blogging come of age here? Blogs like Harry’s Place, SamizData and the Adam Smith Institute have been steadily building audiences over the past couple of years, and there are signs of fresh activity in the run-up to the election. Sites such as backingblair.co.uk and strategicvoter.co.uk have recently been launched to raise funds and encourage disillusioned Labour voters to vote tactically to damage the government. These efforts are being driven by sites in the political centre such as bloggerheads.com
I object to the use of ‘political centre’ – it should be ‘chewy political centre’…
UPDATE – DailyKos finally got wind of us, but there’s still no mention of Zach Exley.
UPDATE – Oh, and in case you missed Friday’s linkage, Spinon is back.
8th April 2005 – Sarah (21, from Crawley) gets her jubblies out to welcome Charles and Camilla’s plan to confess “sins and wickedness” in their wedding prayers. She adds: Charlie’s really brave. He must love Camilla if he’s prepared to do that in front of millions watching on TV. I think once it’s over, they should be left alone to enjoy a happy marriage.”
Alas, it was not to be… but surely only because Charles’ love proved to be not quite as deep and profound as the Page 3 girls Rebekah Wade first suspected. For one thing, there’s not nearly enough snogging!
11th April 2005 – Page 3 favourite Zoe (24, from London) ‘reckons’ Prince Charles should have kissed Camilla in public. She says: It’s a shame he didn’t give her a peck. It would have been a lovely show of affection.”
Craig Murray’s new website is now live and we expect to open the weblog to comments on Monday (we have some last-minute TypeKey issues to sort out).
See you all then.
All the action will be over at the Anne Milton weblog and Backing Blair today, folks.
UPDATE – Here you go, this will make you happy: London Calling
